Celebrating Strength, Service and Shared Commitment . . .
As we mark another year and I share this annual message with our policyholders, I am proud to reflect on the legacy that we have built together. We have had a remarkable journey serving Kentucky’s legal community. Our mutual structure ensures that our insureds are not just clients, but partners – and your needs and interests are always at the heart of everything we do.
Since our founding, our mission has been clear and unwavering: to provide high-quality, dependable professional liability insurance tailored to the unique needs of Kentucky lawyers. We have remained steadfast in this mission and sincerely thank you for your continued trust in and loyalty to Lawyers Mutual of Kentucky. That loyalty is evident in Lawyers Mutual’s consistently outstanding retention rates. We do not take your continued partnership for granted.
For nearly four decades, Lawyers Mutual has stood as a model of financial strength and long-term stability. I am pleased to report that 2024, though challenging from a claim’s standpoint, was yet another consecutive year of profitability – continuing a long streak that reflects prudent management, strategic discipline and the enduring support of our insureds. Your confidence in our ability to serve you is what allows us to deliver year after year. Our commitment to stability and consistent profitability reinforces our ability to serve you now and into the future.
Beyond our core business, providing essential insurance coverage, we are deeply invested in giving back. Our company proudly offers free continuing legal education to Kentucky lawyers – a service that reflects our commitment to professional excellence and ongoing education in the law. We view this as more than a benefit; it is a responsibility we embrace to strengthen our profession and safeguard your practices. In every corner of the Commonwealth, we endeavor to stay engaged with the legal community and local legal organizations that make Kentucky’s legal community stronger. Community engagement is part of our DNA, and we are proud to support causes and initiatives that align with our values. These efforts reflect our belief that a thriving legal community benefits everyone.
As we look ahead, we remain committed to delivering exceptional service, fostering community and supporting your professional growth. We move forward with the kind of consistency and customer-focused approach that defines us.
On behalf of our Board of Directors, our staff, and myself, thank you for your part in another successful year for Lawyers Mutual. Thank you for being part of our story. I assure you that our dedication to service, security and community will remain as strong as ever.

P.S. We have spent much of the last year talking to Kentucky lawyers about artificial intelligence (“AI”). While we’ve touched on what AI is, how it might be used in your practices, the ethical issues associated with its use, etc., we’ve mainly encouraged lawyers simply to try it out. We regularly hear from lawyers that they don’t use it at all, don’t know how to use it and are scared of it. Endeavoring to practice what we preach, I have started incorporating AI in my work. I use it mostly to help me identify CLE topics, draft CLE titles and descriptions, and as a starting point in researching a myriad of insurance topics and issues. I say to lawyers that AI can be an invaluable resource when you are staring at a blank screen and are being called upon to write something new and original.
In fact, the above message was drafted with a strong assist from AI. I asked both ChapGPT and Perplexity for a draft of an annual statement to our insureds focused on the points I wanted to highlight – stability, service, community and our gratitude for our insureds. The above message is a combination of my own thoughts and a blend of what ChapGPT and Perplexity generated. The sentiments could not have been more sincere if I’d written every single word myself (as I have done in previous years), but the use of AI shaved considerable time off my work on this message. So, please try AI for yourself and consider whether it can be a help to you in your practice. We look forward to seeing many of you at the upcoming KBA Convention in Lexington. If you are there, please stop by our booth and say hello and let us know how you are using AI in your practice.
